I am certainly all for seeing another women on the Supreme Court, but the rationale for confirming Harriet Miers doesn't pass the common sense test. Harriet seems like a nice, loyal friend to President Bush ---- she also is apparently very capable in the roles she has played and has a career with achievements she probably never dreamed of attaining at one time.
However, even if one were to overlook her seemingly light qualifications from all reports for the highest court in the land, the logic for anyone "trusting Bush" as he requests on his decision to select her is baffling. One certainly can't trust that he is telling the truth when he suggests she is the most qualified person he could find. He would not have had to look too far to find a more openly qualified person for this prestigious position.
With this as the lead, based BUSH's record of RESULTS ACHIEVED as president, what evidence has he put forth that would lead anyone to trust is executive judgment. Just to name a few things to consider...
- Going to war under false pretenses. We've been given many reasons for the war. We know the initial ones proved to be faulty with a cloud of questions unresolved over the integrity and truth around what was told to the public.
- A war out of control - over $200,300,000 spent and counting; 2157 Military Coalition forces dead --- of those 1959 are US; estimates of 100,000 civilians dead and maimed unacknowledged.
- Out of control deficit, topping $7,989,370,217,563; increasing an average of $1.62 billion per day since 9/2004.
- Oil prices out of control, it went up $1.00 today with profits skyrocketing for American oil companies and people struggling to get to work; at Chevron their pumping at $2.89/gallon in San Francisco.
- Corporate Contracts out of control. Despite the highly questionable and ongoing investigations on Halliburton and its KBG subsidiary for excessive over-charging they continue to gain no-bid contracts topping the list of corporate wealth made in Bush's wars.
- Executive hiring decisions in question. Bush's judgment in hiring his unqualified friend, Michael Brown to run FEMA was a violation of public trust, especially considering his promises to our citizens about his care about security in the homeland. Having his poor judgment exposed to the world was a threat to national security in itself as the whole world watched.
With just these few examples...
What is it in these facts that would lead anyone to blindly TRUST Bush's judgment that Harriet Miers is in fact the most qualified person he could find for this significant nomination to the Supreme Court for life?
I leave you pondering this question myself.

Why would one trust with nuclear weapons a person who can't even pronounce "nuclear"?
