“The world in the past has been ruled by force, and man has dominated over woman by reason of his more forceful and aggressive qualities both of body and mind. But the balance is already shifting --- force is losing its weight and mental alertness, intuition, and the spiritual qualities of love and service, in which woman is strong, are gaining ascendancy. Hence, the new age will be an age less masculine, and more permeated with the feminine ideals --- or, to speak more exactly, will be an age in which the masculine and feminine elements of civilization will be more evenly balanced.”
A close friend of mine, who is a Bahia, recently shared with me a number of short articles written by her prophet, Baha’u’llah. As I read these articles, I came to realize that the teachings of this prophet of many years ago are truly coming alive in our world today. I have also been deeply connected with the work of Helen Fisher, an anthropologist from RutgersUniversity and author of “The First Sex: The Natural Talents Of Women and How They Are Changing The World”. In Helen’s book, she describes endless talents and attributes that women hold that are particularly essential in business, relationship building and politics. "yes" She speaks of women holding natural gifts, such as being relational and caring, holding advanced communication skills and being able to actively see the whole in the environments in which they live. There is no greater time in the history of the world where these traits and attributes have been more needed.
To me, it would not be a successful world if women elbowed men and stepped in to the limelight of our world’s leadership. But as Baha’u’llah mentions in the quote above, we will all benefit from a world where the masculine and feminine elements are more evenly balanced.
