I have written of my respect and admiration for the White house Project a number of times in our blog ”Women in the Lead” I hold great respect for the organization as they support women to enter politics and to represent the voice of women and children in the worlds political arena. I was pleased to read the below paragraphs in their recent newsletter:
“It's been one year since The White House Project sent a delegation of philanthropists, congresswomen, writers and security experts down to Santiago for the inauguration of Michelle Bachelet, Chile's first female president. Since her election, Bachelet has made a point to enact changes that positively affect women. She has appointed women to half of the posts in the administration's cabinet, given women the right to breast feed at work, and established domestic violence shelters across the country.
Bachelet's rise to power is part of an international trend: countries around the world are choosing women to lead. And, more women are stepping up to run. A woman is currently running for President in France, two women are vying for the top office in Israel (which has already had a woman president), a Nobel Peace Prize-winning woman is running in Guatemala, and talk of the first female presidential contender in South Korea has already begun. Here at home, Hillary Clinton is running to be our first female president”.
