I Am Also a YOU was the name of a book of photographs and sayings published years ago. I never bought the book, nor do I remember a single photo in it. What has always stayed with me is the title. It's five words say so much about what we all share in common as women ... as members of our human family. We all have those wonderful distinctions that make us special and who we are, but at the core, if we could sit down and have a talk, I have a strong hunch we would soon realize that we have similar longings ... to feel good inside and out, to be healthy, to make a meaningful contribution, to be appreciated and loved, to find the best in ourselves.
I believe we can help one another more effectively when the opportunity arises if we are mindful of what we have in common that transcends position, faith, ethnicity, age and all our other unique and wonderful differences. When we consciously realize our success, freedom and joy in life is wrapped up in success, freedom and joy in life of others, it gives us a foundation upon which to inspire each other to discover our own greatness.
"If you are coming to help me, you are wasting your time. If you are coming because your liberation is bound up with mind, then let us work together."
--- Thoughts of an Aboriginal Woman from Australia
Remember, I am also a YOU.
